In my opinion, Julia Roberts is in some of the best romance movies ever and has some of the best movies of all time. Critics don’t always agree with me though. So we’ve compiled a list of Julia Roberts movies that are “Mommy Bear” approved – that means they need to be both good and “clean”. She seems to have either really great or really bad movies so several of her movies didn’t make this list because they were just really bad. It’s too bad that Pretty Woman is rated R because I’ve seen that on TV and it’s one of the best movies ever (as long as it’s edited). She hasn’t had a good movie in a long time, in my opinion.
#10 – Mirror, Mirror
Grade: C
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – I really wanted to like this movie and was excited after watching the trailer, but this movie was awful. Save your money and time for better things than on this movie.
Summary – After she spends all her money, an evil enchantress queen (Roberts) schemes to marry a handsome, wealthy prince (The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer). There’s just one problem – he’s in love with a beautiful princess, Snow White (Lily Collins, The Blind Side). So, the sinister queen banishes Snow White from her own kingdom! Now, joined by seven rebellious dwarves, Snow White launches an epic battle of good vs. evil in this funny, magical movie that the whole family will love.
#9 – Hook
Grade: C
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – OK, so she isn’t the main character in this but this is a fun children’s movie and she does do a good job.
Summary – A high-flying adventure from the magic of Steven Spielberg, Hook stars Robin Williams as a grown-up Peter Pan and Dustin Hoffman as the infamous Captain Hook. Joining the fun is Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, Bob Hoskins as the pirate Smee, and Maggie Smith as Granny Wendy Darling, who must convince the middle-aged lawyer Peter Banning that he was once the legendary Peter Pan. And so the adventure begins anew, with Peter off to Neverland to save his two children from Captain Hook. Along the way, he rediscovers the power of imagination, friendship, and magic.
#8 – Runaway Bride
Grade: C
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – OK. This one I’m sad about. This is one of my top 10 favorite movies and to show up so low on the list is just sad. I have watched this movie over and over. Sure, the plot is a little predictable but you can’t deny that Richard Gere and Julia have great on-screen chemistry. It’s just a fun romantic comedy. Personally, I wish Hollywood would make more movies like this and less movies like America’s Sweethearts and Eat, Pray, Love.
Summary – Roberts plays small-town girl Maggie Carp enter, whose marches down the aisle become a series of near Mrs. when she bolts before saying “I do.” Gere is Ike Graham, a cynical, big-city newspaper columnist eager to write a tell-all story about Maggie. But the more Ike finds out about skittish Maggie, the more he finds he’s falling in love.
#7 – The Pelican Brief
Grade: C
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – Another one of my husband’s all-time favorites. Very good acting by both her and Denzel Washington. I’ve even watched it a few times and think it’s well done. I’m surprised it’s not further up the list.
Summary – Riveting thriller based on John Grisham’s best-seller stars Julia Roberts as a New Orleans law student who writes a paper exposing the conspiracy surrounding the deaths of two Supreme Court justices and Denzel Washington as the investigative reporter who helps her dodge the assassins and special agents on her trail.
#6 – Stepmom
Grade: C+
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – Another tear-jerker but some good acting, especially by Susan Sarandon.
Summary – Moving melodrama stars Julia Roberts as a New York fashion photographer who moves in with divorced boyfriend Ed Harris and finds herself in competition for the attention of his two children with their mother, Susan Sarandon. The two women must come to terms with their place in the modern-day extended family when Sarandon is diagnosed with a terminal illness.
#5 – My Best Friend’s Wedding
Grade: C+
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – Another one of my favorite chick flicks. I don’t care if it’s not the most well-done movie. If you get over being annoyed with the whole plot and just enjoy the movie, it’s fun and enjoyable and you can watch it again and again.
Summary – Roberts dazzles as commitment-shy Jules Potter, who reluctantly realizes she is in love with her best friend Michael (Mulroney). There is just one catch: he’s about to marry someone else. Comically crazed and full of devious plans, Jules will do anything to steal him back… except tell him the simple truth.
#4 – Notting Hill
Grade: B-
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – I’m annoyed this movie scored higher than a lot of my favorites – and it is a better seller than some of my favorites. Go figure.
Summary – Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) is the world’s most famous movie star. Her picture has been plastered on the cover of every magazine, and every time she makes a movie, the entire world knows about it. William Thacker (Hugh Grant) owns a travel bookstore in the quaint neighborhood of Notting Hill. His business is stagnant, he has the roommate from he ll andhis love life is completely nonexistent. Then one day, their paths cross and the couple comes to face the ultimate question: can two people fall in love with the whole world watching?
# 3 – Charlotte’s Web
Grade: B
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – Funny that one of the highest ranked movies is one with just her voice.
Summary – Fern (Dakota Fanning) is one of only two living beings who sees that Wilbur is a special animal as she raises him, the runt of the litter, into a terrific and radiant pig. As Wilbur moves into a new barn, he begins a second profound friendship with the most unlikely of creatures – a spider named Charlotte – and their bond inspires the animals around them to come together as a family. When the word gets out that Wilbur’s days are numbered, it seems that only a miracle will save his life. A determined Charlotte – who sees miracles in the ordinary – spins words into her web in an effort to convince the farmer that Wilbur is “some pig” and worth saving.
#2 – Ocean’s Eleven
Grade: B
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – One of my husband’s favorite all-time movies. Although Julia really isn’t in the movie all that much. . .
Summary – George Clooney plays Danny, defying the odds in a split-second heist of three Vegas casinos – all owned by a magnate (Andy Garcia) who is dating Danny’s ex-wife (Julia Roberts). A fixer (Brad Pitt), a pickpocket (Matt Damon), a blackjack dealer (Bernie Mac), a flimflammer (Carl Reiner) and others in well-defined roles are with Danny. Are you in or out?
#1 – Steel Magnolias
Grade: B+
Mommy Bear’s Opinion – One of Julia’s first movies. Some very good acting by more than just her. I just don’t like to watch it very often because it makes me cry so much.
Summary – Six divas of the silver screen — Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts — come together as bosom buddies in this hilarious and heartwarming story of life, love and loss in a small Louisiana Parish. At the center of the group is Shelby Eatenton (Julia Roberts), newly married and joyfully pregnant, despite the fact that her diabetes could make childbirth life-threatening. Terrified and angry at the possibility of losing her only daughter, M’Lynn Eatenton (Sally Field) looks to her four closest friends for strength and laughter as she battles her deepest fears of death in order to join Shelby in celebrating the miracle of new life.

Steel Magnolias is a great film. Also like Runaway Bride. I also like her in some R rated movies.
Julia Roberts is one of my favorite actresses! Not only is she a terrific actress, but she’s totally beautiful as well!
Even though it isn’t really kid approrpiate, my favorite movie with her and R. Gere is Pretty Woman.
Love Julia Roberts…she is great!
